Manchester Area MVT
Rawcliffe Hall 08
After what seems like one of the wettest summers on record and several show dates having to be cancelled due to the inclement weather it looked like Rawcliffe was set to suffer the same fate.
But thanks to the hard work of Dave Bagot the ground keepers and staff of Rawcliffe hall and Paul Higgins of South Cumbria & North Lancs. mvt. The show now in its 8th year was a great success.
Friday evening arrived with the weather warm and pleasant, which rather matched the atmosphere in the marquee with a karaoke that revealed some hidden talents.
Saturday morning broke bright and warm. Time for the tops down, pack away the brollies and send the “boys” off to play with their trucks on a road run.
Well 2 hours of peace was soon paid for with tales of their exploits causing mayhem with grease guns, socket sets and tow ropes on the lanes around the “local” area leaving just time to get scrubbed-up for the evening dance in the marquee.
To Quote: “Saturday night was a brilliant night’s dancing with a really good band, The Crown Top Kings. It was well attended and the atmosphere warm and friendly.”
Sunday was cloudy but still warm, and as the camp started to fill up with visitors, re enactors and more military vehicles the one question no one could answer would the “huey” be allowed to fly with such a low cloud…..
The Pipe band formed and played in the marquee as the North West Collectors loaded and prepared for an early battle, The Huey was grounded due to the low cloud and threatening rain.
Then around the arena tents were dropped and the word went out that the man in the orange jacket was not a vagrant train spotter. In true 7th cavalry spirit the “huey” was up and on its way despite the weather, and it certainly stole the show.
All in all a well attended event with trade stands and exhibits and a friendly atmosphere well worth attending although it’s hard to see how it could be improved upon.
But maybe you know different and Dave, Paul and the rest of the team are always open to suggestions.
